A Positive Future for Forestry

A number of our team attended a very interesting and instructive Forestry Conference this year, hosted by the CLA, Forestry Commission and Grown in Britain. During this period of change within the industry it was reassuring to hear ideas for a positive vision for forestry in England. With several new aspects of ELMS due to be announced later this year along with the new Woodland Finance Strategy a future for forestry and its role in England is becoming clearer.

Much of the discussion was focussed on the environmental value of woodland through Carbon and Biodiversity Net Gain as part of this, questions were raised in terms of resilience from both diseases and pests and how this may affect future value. Attention was also given to timber production and emphasis was given to its use as a sustainable building material for the future. This will hopefully widen the thinking surrounding forestry in the Southeast in particular.
