The Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick has appealed to landlords to consider allowing pets in their rented properties.
There will be changes to the model tenancy agreements which are intended encourage more landlords to accept well-behaved pets with responsible owners. Landlords will not however be legally bound to use the new agreement.
Whether or not to accept a tenant with a pet can be a difficult decision for a landlord to make, there are a variety of reasons why they may not want dogs, cats, birds etc kept at their rental property. There is a greater potential for damage, noise complaints, odours and concerns future tenants may have certain allergies.
Pet owners can however make very good tenants. Given the shortage of pet friendly homes, they are more likely to make that extra effort to look after their rental property and make a good impression so they can continue their tenancy for the long term.
RH & RW Clutton is delighted to act for many landlords and country estates who offer pet-friendly properties for let across Sussex, Surrey and Kent.
