Sussex Heritage Trust Awards Launch

Thu 7 March 2024

RH & RW Clutton was very pleased to attend the launch of the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards on Tuesday 5 March 2024 at the beatifully restored and double award-winning St Michael and All Angels Church in Berwick @berwickchurchsussex. We were privileged to hear from the Revd Peter Blee and Crispin Freeman about the conservation of the famous Bloomsbury Group chuch paintings by Duncan Grant, Vanessa Bell and Quentin Bell and the new underfloor heating system, which is essential to the long-term conservation of the paintings, with a sustainably powered ground source heating and new roof  insulation.

In 2023, in recognition of this work, the church achieved a Sussex Heritage Trust Award in the Ecclesiastical category and was the overall winner of The Eco Award in its inaugural year.

David Cowan, Chairman of the Sussex Heritage Trust, formally announced the 2024 Awards in front of guests including the Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex, Andrew Blackman CStJ, and the High Sheriff of East Sussex, Richard Bickersteth.

RH & RW Clutton is proud to sponsor the Awards, and is pleased to be among other sponsors such as Irwin Mitchell, Cowan Architects, Gravetye Manor and Toovey’s Antique and Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers.  The Awards are now in their 26th year and celebrate the very best of conservation, restoration and good design of newly built projects across Sussex, as well as encouraging the use of traditional skills and crafts.
