Victoria and George Back visited the beautiful Stopham Estate, near Pulborough and home to the famous Stopham Estate Winery, to see the new "Jubilee Clump" planted by the Stopham Estate in partnership with RH & RW Clutton and Landmark Systems as part of the Queen's Green Canopy initiative (#queensgreencanopy) https://queensgreencanopy.org/
The clump of young mixed deciduous trees has been planted on an idyllic spot with views of Chanctonbury Ring and the Goodwood Estate and can be seen from miles around. The Stopham Estate is also going to be installing a commemorative handmade bench just at the foot of the hill with perfect views of the clump using some of the wood from the estate.
We had the privilege of being escorted to the clump by Sir Brian Barttelot, owner of the Stopham Estate, who chose the picturesque location and who has been a long standing champion of tree planting on the Stopham Estate and in the local area.
The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
Everyone from individuals to Scout and Girlguiding groups, villages, cities, counties, schools and corporates will be encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees during the official planting season between October to March.
With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC will encourage planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations.
